How To Nap During The Day (And Get Away With It)

Honestly, the only people I have met that don’t enjoy naps are children. I recently overheard a mother telling her tired, cranky children that they would all be napping that afternoon. Her children lost it, “we don’t need to nap”, they cried. Meanwhile I sat there in disbelief wishing I could be told to have a nap.

Today I am going to tell you guys about the benefits of using a silk pillowcase. The Slip Silk Pillowcase felt good and claimed to benefit your skin and hair so I went ahead and treated myself. I bought one when I had disposable income available - silk pillowcases aren’t cheap, so it needs to be considered as an investment. I told my nan about my newfound luxurious pillowcase which sent her into reminisce-mode about a silk pillowcase she had as a young woman. So I also bought her one as a gift (she is a champion napper by the way, every day at 2pm she gets into bed for a nap).

Less Damaging for Your Skin and Hair

Silk fibres are less absorbent and less abrasive than other fibres such as cotton. This means that your silk pillowcase will not pull or irritate the delicate skin on your face. It helps your skin retain its natural moisture and also won’t soak up that expensive facial moisturiser you put on before bed.

The natural ‘slip’ of the material helps reduce friction while you’re sleeping - so you will wake up with less frizz, less tangles, and in the long-term, means your hair will endure less damage. While frizzy hair isn’t an issue for me personally, I had many weekly blow dry clients who noticed their styles lasting longer when using their silk pillowcases.

Smooth Skin

Because silk is, well, silky, this means that your face isn’t subject to friction by your pillowcase during the night. Since sleeping on my silk pillowcase I have never woken up with a sleep crease on my face - amazing!! Because the material is so smooth, it can also help reduce the accentuation of facial wrinkles, which is fabulous for the long-term.

Extra Benefits of Sleeping on Silk

Silk is naturally hypoallergenic which makes it perfect for sensitive or irritated skin. The material also regulates body temperature (so it is great all year round, for those who overheat during the night and for ladies experiencing hot flashes).

It is also relatively easy to take care of a silk pillowcase - I put mine in a delicate wash bag in the washing machine. I use the hand wash setting and I use a washing liquid that is safe to use on silk or delicate materials. They dry super fast too so I find I can put my clean pillowcases back onto my pillows within a couple of hours.

So technically, if you napped on a silk pillowcase instead of a cotton one, you could definitely nap during the day - you wouldn’t be left with a sleep-creased face or bed hair!

Perhaps you should try one and decide for yourself!
